DESCRIPTION: Here is a boxed silk tied 8 page booklet and 32 loose plates. This boxed set is apparently circa 1950. Offered is a "JAPANESE WOOD - PRINT" pink silk tied booklet that measures about 5 inches by 7 inches. The booklet consist of 6 folded over sheets of paper. Page 1 through 5 are in English and discusses wood block printing. Pages 6, 7 and 8 are illustrated with the tools & supplies needed for the process of Wood Block Printing. The remaining pages are in Japanese and are unnumbered. Also included are 32 loose plates, each plate measures about 6 inches by 8 1/4 inches. The actual woodblock print tipped onto the plate is about 3 3/4 inches by 5 3/4 inches. These plates are divided into two catagories the "A" Plates represent each individual block used in the production of the 16 block series and are numbered from A1 through A16. The "B" Plates show the progression of the woodblock color printing as it is applied from B1 through B16. Plates B 16 represents the completion of a beautiful rustic scene of a person crossing a bridge. Both the Booklet and the 32 (A & B) Plates are contained in a decorated box with a duplicate B 16 Print tipped onto the cover. CONDITION: The box shows wear on the edges with only a single rip to one edge of the bottom box. The 32 (A & B) Plates and the booklet are in very good condition. There is a single black stain toward the bottom of the silk tied booklet and a bottom corner had been folded over. The A1 and B16 plates from each of the two 16 plate series contain a stamp that says UCHIDA; Wood Block Printer; Takakura, Takeyamachi Street; KYOTO JAPAN. * CONDITION: Very good with wear.
