Full leather, covers with black impressed double border lines with floral corners, fr. has gilt central 'Birmingham Law Society' and back their gilt monogram in circular border', corners rubbed, edges also but stretches of gilt deckling remain, otherwise clean; new high quality professionally re-backed gilt panelled spine with gilt on red title label. t.p. + 248 + 233-266 (pagination error) + (2, pub. catalogue) top edge black, but this seems to be tinted thus, hanging reference shoulders throughout; Birmingham Law Society label with dec. border to front paste-down plus a small round white lib. number label, two of the Society's early round stamps to t.p.and again to pp.1,199, 245(one onl) front end-paper edges tanned and edge-chipped, rear end-paper and both paste-downs also have broad strips of quite heavy edge-tanning and lighter central areas of same, otherwise internally clean, tight and unmarked bar brown spot to centre t.p. (see image), slight edge tanning and four early ink typo correction (may have missed one or two, these neat and inoffensive. Although it would fit, this does not seem to be by the lawyer William Atwood (1650-1712), it is not mentioned in his Wikipedia entry and various library entries give '(d. 1705?)'. Despite faults as described here it remains a very acceptable copy of this extremely rare book, and the provenance marks are all early, it is an interesting provenance in any case. 12.5 cm x 18 cm.
