Large Quarto. 8pp. Original illustrated cream wraps with black lettering on cover, protected by modern mylar. Brief introduction into design and building of gravestones for graves of Jewish soldiers. Issued in agreement with Rabbis of the armies of the West during W.W.I pointing out that graves of Jewish soldiers may not contain crosses for religious reasons. It provides examples for designs of so-called "Stelen" following the old Jewish tradition of grave markers. Though it is easier and more likely to find wood in the field there is no reason for the marker to lack dignity and stability. In cases when headstones are desired and available the design should also be plain and strictly follow the tradition. The booklet contains instructions on how to build wooden gravestones for soldiers in the field. It covers the crafting of the gravestones and provides detailed guidelines for the inscriptions according to Jewish tradition. Illustrated with technical drawings including scales of gravestone designs by Hermann Esch and Prof. M. v. Hugo. The samples presented are gravestones for M. Cohn, Karl Bär, O. Lippschitz, Elias Oppenheimer and others. Text in German. Wraps and block lightly age toned with light staining in upper right corner of front cover. Half an inch closed tear at center of foredge throughout. Wraps and interior in overall good to very good condition. Seller Inventory # 49077
