Green cloth. 8vo. 158pp plus ads. Illustrated. Early cookbook interleaved with advertisements for many Philadelphia businesses. There are sections on: the breakfast-table; fish; soups; sauces and gravies; forcemeats or stuffing; venison; meat-pies; lamb; veal; pastes and pastry; mince meat; pancakes and fritters; preserves and pickles; wines and syrups; cookery for the sick; useful receipts for housekeepers and servants and much more. The book is illustrated with 8 color plates. Four of these show various dishes from the recipes in the book and the other four are color ads. This copy has the gilt stamp of Averill Barlow on the cover who presented this copy. A good copy with some spotting and edgewear to the cloth. The text is good with some foxing and spotting.
