About this Item
First Edition (NAP). As you can see from the photos, the covers of this book are exceptionally clean and in excellent condition. The corners have only speck-sized light rubbing, none on the six edges, just a couple of tiny shallow dents. The black lettering on the spine has no wear, that is the case for the very cool illustration on the front cover. This book is square, not slanted, and very solidly bound from cover to cover, no binding issues. The inside covers and end papers have a red background with white (and a little black) flowery illustrations. The front end paper has a light crease at the tip of its bottom corner. The pages are in very good condition. I didn't see any other creases or dogeared corners. There are no markings. No attachments ( NOT ex-library). And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. There is some light spotting (no soiling or stains) on some of the pages with white backgrounds. This is the case on the blank versos of the illustrated end papers and also on a couple of early illustrated pages. After that, when it occurs, it is typically anywhere from a couple to a handful of small spots (minor foxing) (see photo of title page). You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. It's very clean. It is rated it only Good mainly due to the small loss off the bottom edge of the front cover (see first photo). It also has very tiny loss at the spine ends and on the rear cover just adjacent to the bottom spine end. There are three very thin edge tears on the jacket, two are visible but not conspicuous, one off the top edge and one off the bottom edge of the rear cover. The jacket is NOT price-clipped. There are very thin tucking-in clips at the four corners of the flaps. These white flaps are in very good shape but do have some light spotting/foxing. I've have the jacket in a fitted protective cover for as long as I've owned it. I've priced this book well below the one or two other dust jacketed first editions. Also, if you notice a difference in the photos, I used a phone for the 1st and 3rd because the scanner I typically use was creating a line of glare (there's still a little) off the plastic protective cover. 'Paul Galdone illustrated nearly all of Eve Titus' books including, Basil of Baker Street series which was translated to the screen in the animated Disney film, The Great Mouse Detective. Galdone and Titus were nominated for Caldecott Medals for Anatole (1957) and Anatole and the Cat (1958). The titles were later named Caldecott Honor books in 1971. He was posthumously awarded the 1996 Kerlan Award for his contribution to children's literature. His re-tellings of classic tales like The Little Red Hen or Three Billy Goats Gruff have become staples.'. Seller Inventory # 002172
