Y.; Salem, Ind.; Scaghticoke Point, N. Y.; Vermont. These are all in the index of the first volume in the book. The second volumes does not separate the revival news in the index, but they are everywhere in the missionary reports.Absalom Peters (1793-1869); born in New Hampshire, graduate of Dartmouth College & Princeton Theological Seminary. Peters enjoyed an extraordinary career as a Congregational missionary, pastor, editor, and seminary professor. In 1819 he was a missionary in northern New York, then was pastor of a church in Bennington, Vt., beginning in 1820. He afterward was secretary of the Home Missionary Society and editor of the Home Missionary and Pastors Journal (1825-1837). He later was the editor of American Biblical Repository, and the American Eclectic and also the American Journal of Education. He was professor of pastoral theology and homiletics in the Union Theological Seminary, New York, from 1842 to 1844, and pastor of the First Church, Wilmington, MA, from 1844 to 1857. He published several works, including the curious Sermon against Horse-Racing (1822).The American Home Missionary Society was formed in 1826 by the Congregational, Presbyterian, Dutch Reformed, and Associate Reformed Churches with the purpose of financially assisting congregations on the American frontier until they could become self-sufficient.
