_____Guardhouse Overhead Detachment #6834 was originally activated at Meesden Manor, Hertfordshire, England in December, 1943. _____ Its mission was to discipline, rehabilitate and restore to full duty men serving sentences of six months or less under Courts Martial Orders. _____ The Military Police arrived in France via Omaha Beach on August 8, 1944._____ There they operated a POW Enclosure at Alencon, processing some 100,000 German soldiers. _____ In September they moved to Paris and took over the Operation of Paris Detention Barracks._____ This facility housed general prisoners, garrison prisoners, escapees, garrison detained personnel and German POWs._____ "During our stay we executed a German spy, and six American soldiers convicted of capital crimes.". _____ In November, 1944 the unit relocated to Courances, France, with 500 garrison prisoners and 400 general prisoners in tow. _____ This history was written and probably printed there._____ It ends with rosters of all the officers and enlisted men who served with the unit including their home addresses. _____ We could locate no information on the net regarding this unit or document._____ We suspect it was printed in very small quantity, in theater, and this is a rare survivor. _____ Printed on cheap paper, now tanned and fragile._____.
