TEXT IN GERMAN. A charming story about Hans, who feels lucky to always find a quick solution to his troubles. After completing seven years of servitude, Hans sets off to return home to his mother. His master has paid him well for his years of work with a heavy gold lump, but after carrying the heavy lump for a while, Hans trades it for a brisk horse to ease his journey. When the horse throws him, a bruised Hans exchanges the horse for a cow who'll be able to provide cheese & milk. The cow kicks Hans as he tries to milk her, so he exchanges her for a pig, then the pig for a goose, then the goose for a whetstone. The whetstone is so heavy that when Hans accidentally drops it down a well he marvels at how lucky it is that he no longer has to carry it as he finishes his journey home to mother. This retelling of a Brothers Grimm story is accompanied by the stunning colorful illustrations of renowned graphic designer Herbert Leupin, whose advertising poster art is exhibited at the MOMA museum in New York. Edges and corners lightly bumped & rubbed. Brown cloth spine has small hole but binding is tight and strong. No dj. Small name printed in pencil on title page, no other writing throughout, no water damage, creases or tears. Light finger smudges and a few small crinkles on some pages, but overall the creamy thick pages and bright illustrations are in very good condition. Pages not numbered. NOT ex-library.
