1937. First Edition. Near Fine hardcover, in torn dustwrapper with pieces lost from head and heel of spine, now in a Brodart cover protector. Frontispiece by Maywill Dudley shows Honk-a-Tonk in flight. A big book, collection of fabular tales from the point of view of wildlife. It opens with the novella "The Adventures of Honk-a-Tonk" the goose. The shorter tales follow the adventures of a chipmunk, squirrel, pheasant, a red fox pup, various birds, and others. Chaffee was a popular children's book writer who in addition to his own book was noted for adapting for preschoolers such classics as Wizard of Oz, Pinocchio, Longfellow's Hiawatha, and Bambi.
