First edition, first printing. Contains the date 1932 printed in roman numerals to the title page and first printing code (1) to page 388. A hint of rubbing to the lower spine edge, else very nearly fine in blue linen with gilt embossed titles and an anchor illustration to the front cover and with gilt embossed titles to the spine; in a slightly rubbed very good dust jacket slightly faded to the spine panel, and with tiny nicks, rubbing and short tears to the upper and lower spine ends; original printed $2.50 price still intact to the front inner flap. Un-credited wrap-around dust jacket art. Set in the 1870s in a Cape Cod fishing village, this historical novel features Franklin Cobb who inherited a newspaper business, Captain Bates, a sea captain, and an interesting mix of small-town characters, all involved in an upcoming election.
