used book, large format with HB covers, heavy volume.500+ pages. Corners frayed, spine replaced with tape. . Brown hb covers faded in places. Fep missing, no loss to text. This is a very scarce compilation of Victorian newspaper compilations containing a wealth of articles of general interest, short stories, quizzes and competitions, adverts, many black & white illusts, also a large fold-out colour illust of a sailor holding mistleto over a servant girl, from a picture by w. Small. This has been repaired with tape.The articles are dated monthly for the second half of 1895, starting in June. The last section is a Christmas edition, with many contemporary articles. Some of the book's contents are as follows: 'Hypnotic Murder' by Alban Cooper, illust by Miss S.A.T. Robinson (short story), 'The Mocking Bird' by Robert H. Sherard, illust by Oliver Paque (short story in five parts)' A Perilouis Ride' by Major T. A. Butler illust. by S.T. Dadd (short story). There is a monthly article called 'Woman's realm' which has a host of home tips and fashion advice. Many other tips on gardening and other matters, and much, much more.
