The French Lieutenant's Woman, John Fowles, Jonathan Cape, 1969, First Edition, First Impression Fowles third book and adapted for film in 1981, starring Jeremy Irons and Meryl Streep , this story explores the fraught relationship of gentleman and amateur naturalist Charles Smithson and Sarah Woodruff, the former governess and independent woman with whom he falls in love. In near fine condition, the binding is straight and tight, the boards clean and the lettering on the spine bright. There is a small crease to the bottom corner of the front board and back boards. The end papers and page are free from marks, tears and inscriptions. The top edge retains its original brown tint. The unclipped dust jacket is in very good condition with rubbing to all the corners, rubbing to the front cover, marks to the front cover, wear to the bottom edge of the spine, wear to the edges of the back cover, wear to the edge of the front cover and three crease marks to the back cover. Will be dispatched carefully wrapped in bubblewrap and a cardboard box. Seller Inventory # 03853
