About this Item
1 blank leaf + TP + iii = Contents + [1] - 432 + 1 blank leaf, Octavo. First Edition (Second Issue rinting?). There is some confusion on the first edition, first printing of this book. Online scans show that the Sigma and the Nixon Jones printings are identical in all respects other than the title pages which show two different printers (both noting 1889 as the publication date) and Snider's declaration of copyright appearing in the lower left corner of the Sigma title page while it appears on the verso of the title page in the Nixon Jones printing. NOTE that the Nixon Jones information is found on the verso of that title page while the title page identifies this printing as the "Literary School Edition" - but with no priority mentioned or indicated. Almost certainly simultaneously published but his copy may well have been a second printing. Snider's The Freeburgers is a lesser-known but intriguing novel that combines elements of satire and social commentary. Set in a fictional world, it explores themes of identity, freedom, and societal norms through its unique narrative style and offbeat characters. The story unfolds in the town of Freeburg, where the residents live under unusual and often absurd conditions that mirror real-world societal issues. Snider uses this setting to critique various aspects of modern life, from consumerism to bureaucracy. The characters are often portrayed in exaggerated, humorous ways, which serves to highlight the underlying serious themes of the novel. The Freeburgers has garnered a niche following for its clever writing and thought-provoking themes. Original publisher's dark green publisher's boards with stamped motif on front and rear covers. Gilt lettering to spine, with light wear to top and bottom of spine. First blank leaf has two 11 '90 n.y. L.W.S.". and the second in pencil in the center of the top half of the first blank leaf: "Bill + Hattie Amseln Feb. 17 1890 - from Aunt Lou." Otherwise of clean and bright copy of this unique work. ADDITIONAL PHOTOS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST. Seller Inventory # 1491
