About this Item
First edition. Drawings by Jim Seed. Light foxing on topedge with faint scattered foxing on pages, bumping at the foot of the spine, very good in a very good dust jacket with chips and tears, tiny abrasions, and light foxing. The sympathetic story of Freddie, a young African-American boy living as a minority in a small city, portraying a supportive family life, discussing relatives who served in the Armed Forces, the importance of Christian faith, education and racial sensitivity. Presumably written for young white readers, the story begins: "This is Freddie. His skin is darker than yours, and his hair is black and curly. He is called a Negro, and he lives in America.".
