About this Item
First Edition (NAP). As you can see from the photos, the green covers are in very nice condition. The gilt lettering on the front and spine is quite bright. There's only one small dark spot on the rear cover. The edges are in very good shape. The corners have only the lightest bit of rubbing. There's a tiny crease just above the front bottom corner. There is the usual crinkling at the spine ends. The book is square and very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The pages are in excellent condition. The only imperfections that I am seeing are: a teeny tiny tear off the bottom edge of the half-title page, a minor scratch on the title page, one small thin spot on one page, and there is a tan square shadow on both the front end paper and the rear end paper. So the pages are very clean. I didn't see any conspicuous creasing, no turned-down corners or placeholder creases. There are no markings. No attachments. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. There is a separate slip of paper inside the book that describes it. I think it probably came from the dust jacket. The lettering is in red. It reads: 'In this fantasy, under the guise of a fantastic pilgrimage with symbolical characters, Mr. Allington mirrors the spiritual disarray and mental incoherence of our time. We are shown, in fantastic quickly changing vignettes, like the illogical pictures of a dream, the contest between the ideals of the old Art civilization and the new Trade civilization. The piece changes from vers libre to hexametres, from quatrains to rag-time, is satiric, ironic, lyric and tragic, runs from the merest fooling two passages of intense meditation, such as the tragic routing oversleeping London. The poem breaks through many conventional boundaries but is held into a sort of unity by the philosophical ideas behind.'. Seller Inventory # 003674
