About this Item
This VG- quality and possible first edition book was copyrighted in 1929 and published by A. L. Burt & Company; it is 7-1/2" tall with 242 numbered pages of text followed by 14 unnumbered pages of ads. This book--terracotta cloth binding with black lettering--is square, quite clean, free of edge dings with both upper corners lightly bumped; the head and heel of the spine are also bumped, with some wear at both places. The bottom edges have a moderate amount of wear though at no point are the boards exposed. The spine is not faded and is clean and the lettering is still legible. The image on the front panel is intact and not damaged. The book has some fabric deterioration, when the paint seems to dissolve--both bottom edges, the rear gutter, and the fore edge--are all affected (see photos). Except for a penciled 1938 inscription on the FFEP, and repeated in ink on the front paste down, the interior is completely free of writing, stray marks, stains of any sort and page damage of any type. The text paper is very mildly toned and is quite flexible and not at all brittle. The frontis is on coated paper and is clean and intact--it is the only illustration. Both hinges are strong and not damaged in any way. The book has no remainder mark and is not a former library book. The list at the front of the book lists through this title of this series.
