1st UK edition. Demy 8vo, c. 8.25 x 5.5 inches, pp.portrait frontispiece + viii + 278 + 23 b&w plates, hardback in original cloth. Book condition - near Very Good ; contents clean, no inscriptions, no foxing but back flyleaf shows heavy tanning, front flyleaf missing, back hinge shows initial splitting but the front hinge is intact and the binding secure ; original green cloth with gilt title on front board and spine; corners rubbed and a little bent but not split, back has a few light marks but is good overall, the spine is complete with the ends rubbed and bent, the spine is slighly tanned but the gilt title remains complete and clear, front board is clean with bright gilt titling. No dustjacket. These are the memoirs of Mary Waddington (an American) during the time she was the wife of the French Prime Minister. She was married to William Waddington who, though of British ancestry, was French by birth. He was a Senator for Aisne and a Minister for Foreign Affairs, under Prime Minister Defaure, before becoming Prime Minister himself in early 1879, only to step down in December of that year.
