About this Item
- ca.1960's (no date mentioned)- FIRST EDITION- This is NOT an ex-library book and it is NOT a reprint edition- BINDING is PICTORIAL stapled softcover in oversize format; binding and text are very neat, clean, bright and solid, VG+ or better with NO extraneous writings or bookplates. Overall, a very nice, SOLID COLLECTOR COPY of an UNCOMMON TRIBUTE and BRIEF ACCOUNT of OXEN, OX TEAMS, and THEIR ROLE on the FARM. Joseph Quinn states: 'An OX TEAM is the BEST and CHEAPEST SOURCE of POWER that MAN has EVER ENJOYED. A YOKE, WHIP, CHAIN and CART- and YOU'RE in BUSINESS! OXEN work better in PAIRS. An OX TEAM has MANY ADVANTAGES over HORSES- they COST LESS and do HARD WORK sooner. An OX has an EVEN DISPOSITION, seldom gets EXCITED or AFRAID. YOKES are generally MADE of BASSWOOD or POPLAR and the BOWS are MADE of WHITE OAK or HICKORY. The OLD-FASHIONED straight YOKE is PREFERRED by MANY. The CANADA HEAD YOKE has been OUTLAWED. A BREAK CHAIN is used in the WINTER to hold back a LOADED SLED from pushing the TEAM down the HILL.' Also much MORE USEFUL and PRACTICAL INFORMATION throughout! 17 pages complete with VINTAGE B&W PHOTOGRAPHS of OXEN and OXEN EQUIPMENT. Overall, a very nice, SOLID COLLECTOR COPY of a SCARCE GUIDE and TRIBUTE to OXEN. Seller Inventory # BK1211190
