First edition, first printing of Figes' first novel, a thinly disguised autobiographical account of the breakup of a marriage and the protagonist s subsequent struggle to rebuild her world, published about the time of the author s own divorce from George Figes. London: Secker and Warburg, 1966. Publisher's original black cloth, titles stamped in silver to spine; pp. 192. A near fine copy in a very good or better, unclipped dust jacket. Binding remains tight and sturdy, minimal wear with a touch of foxing to text block edges. Internally clean. Jacket shows light shelfwear with a small closed tear to front panel, a bit of toning to spine, tape reinforcement to verso of spine crown, protected in archival mylar. Scarce.
