VERY RARE gilded & embossed illustrated hardcover book, sorry no dust-jacket. "The English Illustrated Magazine - Volume XII, October 1894 to March 1895". By various Authors & Illustrators. This is the First Edition, published by The Illustrated London Press, Limited, 1895. Thick & heavy book. PLEASE NOTE: As this book is heavy (over 1.6 Kg with packaging), if you are buying this from outside the U.K. please expect additional shipping costs. 8vo, 24.7 cm x 17.5 cm x 4.2 cm, Red leather-bound spine with gilt embossed lettering, Red textured (branch motif) cloth-covered boards, All edges dyed mottled red. Approx. 662 pages. Weight: 1.5 Kg. (1500 Grams). CONTENTS ARE ALMOST LIKE NEW!!! However, there is some damage to spine where leather is very scuffed, brittle & worn, some loss at head & tail, small rip on front cover & in middle of spine, binding remains tight! Cover is discoloured & faded, some marks, bumps & scratches, edges worn & bumped. Corners are bumped & frayed, boards exposed on 2 of them. End papers slightly marked & creased front & rear of book. Crack forming from tail up & splits in paper in between front pastedown & end paper which is missing tiny piece from bottom edge. Page 101/102 is missing small corner piece, this page and the next few are more smudged than others. Some pages (very few) have corners folds/creases and/or slight rippling, and/or smudges/marks mostly in margins, and/or edge tears/bumps, and/or damp stain on bottom edge. Splits in paper in between last end paper & pastedown. Light age tanning & occasional foxing throughout, more pronounced on end papers. VERY OLD & RARE MAGAZINE, BEAUTIFUL INSIDE!!!
