These XI Cantos, following the completion of the first XXX, focus on the United States, quoting extensively from the works and letters of John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, John Quincy Adams, Martin Van Buren and more, with particular attention paid to the banking system. Canto XXXVI is a particularly beautiful and lyrical Canto partly containing a translation of Cavalcanti's canzone Donna mi pregha . The XI conclude with an ode to Mussolini and a lament on war. This copy is Gallup A37a. First edition, first issue; Farrar & Reinhart; [1934]. Black cloth boards letter in silver down the spine; end-papers. Without dust-jacket. 1500 copies printed of which 500 were used for the second impression by New Directions. The book is in fine condition; contemporary owner's inscription to front fly.
