(Note Later volumes were edited by James L Mooney.)A monumental compilation of the basic information on every ship which helped shape the modern United States from the time of the American Revolution to Nautilus. The arrangement is alphabetical with an historical sketch of each named ship. The history includes tonnage, draft, complement, class etc. etc. Operational history for each ship is included. Each volume includes one or more appendices. Each is devoted to each of the combatant types and other categories such as the Confederate Navy. Ships in the appendices a re listed chronologically. Thus the history of a named ship and the class to which it belongs can be easily studied. Because of the time span of the project there are historical gaps when viewed from the last published i.e. 1981. Set is ex-library reference but appears to have had little use. Still clean and in overall vg+ condition. Seller Inventory # 003631
