Softcover catalog of The American Institute of Graphic Art's (AIGA) "Design and Printing for Commerce and Fifty Advertisements of the Year" collection for 1960. Catalog design was by artist and graphic designer Norman Ives, one of the first students to go through Yale's Graphic Design program under Josef Albers. The illustrated wrap cover, with its repetition of stylized letters forming "AIGA" is a direct analog to Ive's fine art work, and is arguably one of the great exhibition cover designs from the period. Ives was also on the exhibition jury, along with Alexey Brodovitch, Herbert Matter, Constantino Nivola, Tommi Ungerer, and Alvin Eisenman, who headed the department at Yale. Paul Rand was the chairman of the selection committee. Featured projects included work by Saul Bass, Herbert Bayer, Lester Beall, Ivan Chermayeff, Seymour Chwast, Milton Glaser, Herb Lubalin, John Massey, Erik Nitsche, Japan Penraat, Paul Rand, Irving Harper, and Tommy Ungerer among many others. Unpaginated 4to in illustrated wrappers. Surprisingly uncommon. Damp staining to front wrapper, affecting succeeding leaf. Soiling to rear wrapper, with creasing to top corner, and pen writing to upper portion by p.o. Content clean and bright. Seller Inventory # ABE-1618338151078
