About this Item
Stated First Edition. Here's a book that seems to exist only in my hands. I've searched all the book sites without finding any reference to it. It was published by Exposition Press, obviously not one of your larger publishing houses. Both the book and jacket are in pretty decent shape. However there is one particular flaw of note, a fairly large crack at the juncture between the blank rear side of the first front end paper and the half-title page. Both of these pages are solidly bound from top to bottom, and there are no other cracks between any of the other facing pages or between the covers and any of the pages. I guess the glue just gave way in that one place. Gluing it back looks a little complicated and I tend to make a mess of such endeavors, so I'll leave it to a potential buyer. Finding such a flaw demanded that I turn over and go through every page which was working out perfectly well until I found two bound (to each other) pages that were detached, very cleanly detached, nevertheless detached (pages 127 to page 130). For what it's worth there's not a wisp of wear on either of them nor on the juncture from which they escaped. The rear cover is nicely, tightly bound as are the rear end papers. However the fact that those two pages could have simply detached like that does raise questions about the solidity of the binding even though turning over or scrolling through the pages did not cause any issue. The front cover by the way is also nicely, solidly bound. You can see the covers in the photos. They are very clean with the exception of one tiny speck off the rear bottom edge. The edges and corners are in solid shape. The blue lettering on the spine is quite bright. The page edges are quite clean. The wear is quite minor, a bit of rubbing at the top edge of the spine and a tiny crease at the front top corner. The pages are exceptionally clean. I didn't see even one instance of soiling. I also didn't see any creasing. There are no markings. No attachments. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. I've always had the jacket in a fitted protective cover. I just took the protective cover off to get a better look at the jacket. I'll replace it with a new cover after the photos are scanned. The jacket is in pretty decent shape for 1953. It has some smallish spots of soiling on the front. As you can see, there is one tear off the top edge and off the bottom edge at the juncture between the front cover and spine. The rear cover has a thin tear just adjacent to the spine, as well as some light handling soiling and toning. I've provided photos of both covers and the spine. The flaps are in quite nice shape, clean, white with blue lettering, no tears. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. The President of Exposition Press liked the book very much. Here's what he had to say from the front flap of the jacket: 'The Deep Snow is a rousing tale of hair-raising adventure in the North Country, written in the great tradition of Jack London. In my sixteen years as a publisher, I cannot recall more than two or three manuscripts coming across my desk that have had the true tension, excitement, and heart-stopping action of this one. It is an impressive and inspiring story of Man, naked but unafraid, fighting for survival against a powerful and hostile nature, pitting his courage, faith, and stamina against the forces of Arctic cold, overwhelming snow, thundering avalanches, and above all, the murderous pursuit of a merciless wolf pack.'--- Edward Uhlan Also from the dust jacket: 'A plane crashes in the wilds of the Canadian Arctic near the frozen McKenzie River. Three men are left a hundred miles from the safety of civilization. Beset by a pack of hungry wolves that seem more than mortal, by menacing bears, blinding blizzards, sub-zero temperatures, and starvation.'. Seller Inventory # 004434
