Bound in gilt decorated half oasis and buckram, xvi + eight line errata + 624 pp. Engraved frontispiece, title page, vignette with the captain 's hook as his left arm and 38 full-page engraved plates by Browne including the pioneered dark plate. Apart from rubbing to edges and some offsetting/foxing of the plates, a very good early issue of the first complete book edition, evidence including : "Delight" twice appearing at page 284 instead of "Joy", ?Captain? misspelled as ?Capatin? in the final line of page 324 and " if " omitted from the ninth line on page 426. Plates located according to printer?s marginal identification (D D 2 and o o 2) at pages 403 and 563 were numbered as pages 408 and 565 in the list of plates. Without the half title.
