Hardback. 1st UK edn. The autobiography of the ex-Chief of the CID, Scotland Yard, and author of the infamous 'Macnaghten Memoranda', which named 3 Scotland Yard Jack the Ripper suspects : M. J. Druitt, Kosminski, and Michael Ostrog. Chapter 4 of the memoirs is entitled : 'Laying the Ghost of Jack the Ripper'. Other cases featured include : The Hampstead Murder (Mrs. Pearcey); Adolph Beck; Neil Cream; The Camden Town Murder (Robert Wood); Crippen; The Muswell Hill Murder (Millsom and Fowler); The Deptford Murder (the Stratton Brothers who were the first to be convicted of murder by fingerprint evidence); Houndsditch and Sidney Street + much more. With Portrait Frontis./tissue-guard and Index. 300pp. 8vo h/back. Unfortunately the book has sustained water damage to the covers (see images), pds and the first few pp. at the front and rear of the book, but hasn't affected any of the text. Red cloth/gilt lettering. Overall a G. copy of a rare and much sought after 1st edn. 'Ripper' associated title. A fairly heavy book which will require additional postage if shipped overseas.
