282 pages, tan/brown cloth, light spotting to endpaper at front, dustwrapper a little light rubbing to back and the smallest of edge chip top of spine, small name inscribed top of FFEP, "Kay Good Jan 20th 1944". very good+ 2nd impression Nov 1943. *The author lived in Nazi Germany before the war for 9 years and this book is the story of an Austrian surgeon exiled in England and the period of 1940 when England was really at bay against the machine-like ruthlessness of the German army and the Luftwaffe. An active anti-fascist, married to a British Secret agent and Ian Fleming supposedly based James Bond on one of her characters in her spy story Lifeline, she also taught him languages in Vienna.
