In Very Good+ condition. Oversized cream-colored wraps printed in orange and black. Pps. 770 - 863 of volume XXIX. This magazine is in excellent, clean condition with a few faint specks and with modest wear at the spine-ends and at the edges of the wraps. The text is quite clean and bright; no previous ownership markings. The binding is sound. Published in July of 1902, this magazine which includes an abridgement of 'The Cruise of the Dazzler,' (twenty-eight pages with double-columns of text), actually preceeded the hardcover first edition by three months (Century would publish the book in October of that year under the St. Nicholas books imprint). This is part of the magazine's series of long-stories-complete-in-one-issue. A rare and intriguing item for the London collector, being the first publication of his first novel (following early collections of short stories). ".Joe Bronson, dissatisfied and unhappy in school, decides to run away to sea. He falls in with the infamous 'bay pirates,' those some-time fishermen and oyster dredgers who, in reality, used their boats as convenient transport to rob business along the San Francisco bay at the turn of the century. It is readily and quite soon apparent to Joe that perhaps school isn't quite so bad after all; and after befriending 'Frisco Kid,' another young member of the crew they finally are able to cast off the shackles to 'French Pete,' the captain of the Dazzler and restart their lives."
