About this Item
256pp. First edition (1951) of Macdonald Hastings' first novel which begins the Montague Cork series. Includes b/w frontispiece map. The author, who was son of playwright Basil Macdonald Hastings and father of historian/journalist Max, described this book as 'buchaneering', "because he wrote it, as an editor, in reply to readers who asked for stories in the John Buchan manner." Blue hardback with black spine with gilt titles. Very good condition considering age - page edges and endpapers a little foxed, light wear to corners and ends of spine. Dust jacket is unclipped with protective plastic cover and is good with some browning to edges, a little shelf dirt and edges a bit worn with a few small tears and slight loss at ends of spine, in one fold and at tops and bottoms of flap folds. Overall a nice copy. Seller Inventory # LitHastings003
