New York: Holt, Rinehart and Winston, 1971. (8.5 x 11.25 in, 21.2 x 28.5 cm) 196pp. First edition. Foreword by Danny Lyon; introduction, letters and drawings by Billy McCune. Contains 75 black and white photographs, 5 color illustrations, 6 black and white ID photographs. Grey cloth covered boards with white cloth spine lettered in black (near fine overall, top edge of back cover with one dent/crush, clean and tight). Original illustrated dust jacket (toned somewhat, a few tiny spots at upper joint, light surface wear and soiling else fine). Of this work Lyon writes: "Everything outside the straight pictures I consider Text: The text pages are a synthesis of words and pictures. You can understand them just by seeing them, like a picture. They are meant to be beautiful like a medieval manuscript. Should you take the trouble to read them, the words and the pictures, they make a good story, like a novel. But no one wrote them.
