About this Item
Two volumes. Quarto. 8.125 x 11 in. 587, [10]; vii, 537, [5] pp. Illustrated with one map fold out in Vol.1 and 67 copper engravings and 48 wood engravings across both volumes; volume two expects the copper engraving of "Corinth" on p.189 however it is replaced by "Theatre at Megalopolis," which, as expected is also on p. 375 where it is supposed to be, therefore this volume has a duplicate engraving and lacks one image, otherwise complete. Beautifully rebound in brown quarter-calf over marbled paper, titled & ornamented in gilt on spine, ornamented in blind on spine, with raised bands. Beautifully collected and exceptionally detailed with engravings, this two-volume set of archaeologist Edward Dodwell's travels took place both from the perspective as a traveller in the early period and then as a prisoner-of-war (French) during the later tour, scouring ruins, artifacts, & architecture while Greece was then part of the Ottoman Empire.
