A scarce book made more so by the presence of the notoriously uncommon Jacket. Possibly published earlier in New York in 1926, but unconfirmed, Influenced Montague Summers and cited in his book 'The Vampire, His Kith and Kin' Contains 15 chapters with extensively illustrations. Hard Cover. FIRST EDITION. Octavo, pp. xv, [1], 431, [1]. With 16 monochrome plates including frontispiece of "The Fairy Lao Yu". Publishers' black quarter cloth with gilt titles to spine and chequered cloth-covered boards in green and orange. Spine creased at tips and a little worn along repaired upper joint. Light foxing, mainly to text-block edge otherwise contents clean with no annotation or inscriptions. A very good copy. Scarce anthology of folk-tales based upon original Chinese texts and aimed as an introduction for the general reader.
