I've lived in large cities all my life. Yet, when I moved to Chicago eight years ago, I found myself stunned by the inexhaustible activities in this buzzing arts town. Every weekend, I got to choose between numerous art fairs, museum and gallery exhibits. You would think that Chicago, having the second largest number of galleries (over 200) in the country, would have a book about its contemporary artists. Not so! In fact, the Chicago area is not alone in not documenting its own contemporary artists. Other metro areas suffer the same lack. Most art books cover a historical period or museum collection.
