VERY RARE gilded & embossed illustrated hardcover book. "A Captive of the Corsairs" By John Finnemore. Undated, but believed to be First Edition, published by Thomas Nelson and Sons, circa 1906. Thick & heavy item. PLEASE NOTE: As this book is heavy (over 1.2 Kg with packaging), if you are buying this from outside the U.K. please expect additional shipping costs. 8vo, 20 cm x 14.8 cm x 4.6 cm. Green cloth-covered boards, Gilt embossed lettering & colour decoration on spine and front cover, no dust-jacket. 415 pages. Weight: 1.048 Kg (1048 Grams). CONTENTS ARE LIKE NEW!!! However, there are 4 or 5 cracks forming in between pages. Spine is discoloured & marked, bumped & scuffed either end, gilt a bit dull, decoration has completely worn away. Cover is discoloured round edges, slightly scuffed, clean on front, slightly marked & scratched on back, edge wear. Corners are bumped & scuffed. Torn prize sticker on front pastedown. Small ink annotation & remnants of pencil marks on 1st endpaper. Last pastedown & endpaper are marked, e.p. is creased & has folds. Some pages have smudges/marks mostly in margins, and/or one or 2 creases on top edge. All colour plates present, but in the wrong place in book according to List of Illustrations: Plate facing p. 20 is facing p. 16, plate facing p. 120 is facing p. 112, plate facing p. 183 is facing p. 176, plate facing p. 223 is facing p. 224, and plate facing p. 342 is facing p. 336. Light age tanning & occasional foxing throughout. VERY RARE BOOK, EXCELLENT CONDITION INSIDE!!!
