Very good- in its original decorated, blue cloth covered boards with a gilt on black title block on the spine with a gilt image of the surrender of Burgoyne to Gates. The front board is decorated with embossed black borders. A 12mo of 7 1/4 by 4 7/8 inches with wear and rubbing to the cloth at the head and heel of the spine, the cloth over the tips of the boards is worn through, the front board is soiled and rubbed at its fore edge, the front hinge was cracked, but has been reinforced professionally; and the rear hinge has been reinforced, and there is an early prior owner's book plate on the front paste down. The second free end page is warmly inscribed and signed by the author to John Henry Sarin whose book plate is on the front paste down. 461 pages of text including an index, an extensive appendix (within which is a bibliography) and text. Illustrated with frontispiece portrait of Burgoyne from an engraving and a fold-out map of the Saratoga battlefield, a facsimile, seven portraits, three plates of locations and four vignettes.
