First edition of a surprisingly rare reply to Thomas Erskine s View of the Causes and Consequences of the Present War with France which, as the anonymous author here notes, had gone through many editions. Erskine denied that the French had been the aggressors in the outbreak of war, arguing instead against the war and in favour of parliamentary reform. The present pamphlet s author asserts that these arguments operated "like a malignant surgeon on the public mind."
