About this Item
Complete 40-page pamphlet in original pale blue wrappers, "good only." The two staples, both now absent, left small rust stains in the margins. A child has doodled pictures of ships including the "Lusitana" (sic) to rear cover and verso of the front, as well as scrawling some historical notes to inside of back cover, all in pencil. There are also stains to the outside margins of pp. 35-40, though these do not obscure any text. B&W photos of some early buildings, as well as of "Athens County's Most Distinguished Citizen: Gen. Charles H. Grosvenor." The tale of the founding of the first library in Ames Township is related: In 1803 the men and boys gathered a wagon-load of furs and sent them in Mr. Brown's wagon to Boston, where he sold the furs for $75 and used the money to buy 51 books, forming the core collection of the "Coon-Skin Library." Unfortunately, no titles are mentioned. A readable copy of an original booklet generally found only in modern reprints. Reduced from $182. Seller Inventory # 003999
