Birdsong, Sebastian Faulks, Hutchinson, 1993, First Edition, Seventh Impression Adapted for radio, stage and television and well as being the 13th favourite book in Britain in the BBC's 2003 survey "The Big Read", this is the author's fourth novel. The story follows two main characters living at different times: Stephen Wraysford, a British soldier on the front line in Amiens during the First World War and his granddaughter, Elizabeth Benson, whose 1970's plot line follows her attempts to recover an understanding of Stephen's experience of the war. In near fine condition, the binding is straight and tight, the boards clean and the lettering on the spine bright. The end papers and pages are free from marks, tears and inscriptions. The clipped dust jacket, protected in a clear, removable cover is in very good condition with a small mark to the top of the front cover, a mark to the bottom edge of the front cover, a mark to the edge of the spine, a mark to the bottom edge of the back cover and a small mark to the top edge of the back cover.
