A near fine copy (light foxing spots to page edges; 'American Red Cross' unobtrusive stamp to the front free end-paper) in a very good dustwrapper (chips to upper edge of front panel and extremities; a few closed tears held on verso with archival tissue tape). With the correct price of 7/6 net to the spine (in accordance with the English Catalogue of books listing for January 1940 which has the book published at 7/6) and not by way of a price label. Superb period cover art of a well-dressed man found hanging from Brooklyn Bridge. Was it suicide or was he murdered? Inspector Schmidt. Photographs/scans available upon request.
