Small format 24mo HC in original dark blue cloth with decorative borders in blind to boards, titles in gilt to cover and ornate floral patterned scroll work to the unlettered spine. 1st edition. Snugly bound and very neat. Early American work on temperance, quite scarce in the 1st edition, with only 3 copies identified in Library collections searched by Worldcat. The Independent Order of Rechabites founded originally in England as a Christian fraternal organization concerned with temperance. The American chapter was founded in 1842 and reached nearly 1 million in membership at the height of its strength in the late 19th century. Handsomely preserved copy and scarce thus. VG++ or better.
