About this Item
A reading copy only of this scarce small book on batting, with 78 numbered pages, by Edgar Montague Amphlett. The book may have been rebound at some stage as what was clearly the original front cover, with the issue price, is now page 3 of this offering, and what was presumably the rear cover, being an advertisement for Treherne's New Books, now the third page from the end. Green cover with title, author and year in gilt on spine. 'With illustrations and drawings'. Introduction by the author. Chapter I is entitled 'About batting'; Chapter II is 'Defence' (with such parts as position, watching the ball, defensive back-play etc); and Chapter III is 'Offence' (with such parts as The on-drive, the foreward glance, the long-leg hit etc). Book has been damaged by water at some point, thus cover is badly marked and grubby, though the writing on the spine has escaped the worst of it; end papers and those pages nearby affected by damp with a lot of pink staining including over what was the original cover; several marks, including drying out of water, across several text pages; binding loose with the split occurring just inside the original front and rear covers, thus half title page through to original rear free end paper are robustly stitched but loose within the original covers. As stated, a reading copy only of this scarce book which is listed in Padwick. Seller Inventory # 2916
