About this Item
9 x 12", (4)pp., printed on one side of a 18 x 24" sheet of Linweave paper, folded. P. 1 is printed title, etc. with decoration, 2-4 has printed text" (written in the summer of 1913-Christopher Morley)"; p. 3 is the 5 7/8 x 4 7/8" Cheffitz woodcut of a barn with carriage parked at side & flowering tree in front. This paper gives a very clear & detailed reproduction of this woodcut. A copy of this early Morley essay (this is the first edition) that was published as one item in the 1934 Linweave Limited Editions volume. See A. P. Lee, Bibliography of Christopher Morley (1935), p. 234 #[C-49] for more on this volume & the essay. Outer edges show a little (removable) dusting, tiny (1/8") tear to lower edge of front cover (p. 1); else, near fine. "Now that I am 23, and grown up at last, and must earn a living and put away childish things (since I have graduated from the university and am ready to begin my real education), I like to think of about my childhood, remembering how undeservedly happy it was. And one of the memories I propose to regale myself withal is that of the Barns I have known." Essay & illustration are a perfect match. Scarce item. Provenance: belonged to Cleveland, Ohio based artist, art teacher & book collector George Adomeit (1879-1967). Seller Inventory # ABE-82408502
