Octavo. 791pp. Illustrated black dust jacket, with white lettering on the front cover and spine. Orange and red buckram boards, with red motifs on the spine. A first edition copy of this is notable literary collection from American writer Carson McCullers. Included in this edition are not only the first book appearances of the novella "The Ballad of the Sad Cafe", and six short stories previously published in periodicals: "Wunderkind" (1936), "The Jockey" (1941), "Madame Zilensky and the King of Finland" (1941), "The Sojourner" (1950), "A Domestic Dilemma" (1951), and "A Tree, a Rock, a Cloud" (1942), but also all McCullers other previous novels; her acclaimed first novel "The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter" (1940), "Reflections in a Golden Eye" (1941) and "The Member of the Wedding" (1946). A comprehensive collection of all her work up until this point. Dust jacket with some light chipping and creasing to extremities, as well as some light stains and sunning to the back cover.
