About this Item
30 pages. Duodecimo (6 3/4" x 5 1/4") bound in original publisher's wrappers in original pictorial jacket. Art work by Jose Cisneros. First edition of this printing limited to 800 copies. Here are the two scarcest original accounts of the most famous gunfight in the history of the West: when Elfego Baca holed up in a flimsy shack in the New Mexico mountains in 1884 and withstood a siege by 80 cowboys. During 36 hours of gunfire, he killed eight men and came out unhurt by an estimated 4000 shots fired at him during the battle. One account reprinted her in full is a news story that appeared a few days after the fight. Editor V B Beckett published it in "The Black Range" at Chloride, NM, now a ghost town. The other account is from a scarce booklet by Elfego Baca in 1944. In it he details his final version of the episode in his own words. Condition: A near fine copy in like jacket.
