Textured brown endpapers. Errata sheet laid in. "This book represents an accumulation of information acquired personally by one who has specialized in the art of Chinese rugs for the last fifty years" (author). The elaborate work, considered to be one of the most important studies of Chinese antique rugs, includes chapters on fundamentals, techniques colors, designs, usage, identification, and figures, the makers of rugs in antiquity, and maps identifying origin of the rugs. Illustrated with 123 mostly color plates of rugs followed by a chapter on the various types of production, e.g. felt, flat weaves, silk pile rugs and K'e-ssu, wool pile and Royal and civilian rugs with references to the images presented on the plates.
