First edition thus, 3 volumes, 8vo (9.5 in x 6 in), pp. 618; 643; 763, notes, review, index, hundreds of wood engraved illustrations throughout. Full burgundy calf by E. Paul with printed binders ticket on front or rear pastedown endpaper of each volume. Backs in six stylized gilt paneled compartments with triple arcs joined by foliated scroll at the corners, gilt lettered in the second and fourth. Sides with foliated arch corners joined by double roll tooled fillets enclosing central large gilt lozenge, all edges gilt, inner gilt dentelles. Very good attractively bound set with volume one re-backed to style, some rubs and natural wear to edges, extremities, and corners. Front joint of volume 2 cracked but bands holding.
