Square and tight in pleasingly unworn black boards. One tiny nick to bottom edge of front bottom corner. 5' curved, colorless 'scuff' on back board that is visible when held in the light. Gilt bright on front cover. Gilt lettering on spine lightly dulled. Gilt stripes intermittently lightly rubbed. Page edges lightly toned. Scattered mild to moderate foxing on front and rear endpapers. Previous owner signature discreetly inked on ffep. Leaves clean and free of markings. Good- unclipped jacket lightly chipped at extremities. Near 2' beehive-shaped chip obliterated 'Scribner's' on heel of spine. 1.5' chip took out 'Ernest' on spine crown. Age toning to white flaps, more so on flap creases. Color remains bright on cover and spine. B&W photo of a wistful Papa holding a black cat on verso. Scribner's 'A' and shield present on title page.
