Hardcover. Condition: Very good. Dust Jacket Condition: very good. First Printing [Stated]. [10], 290, [4] pages. Signed on t-p. DJ has slight wear and soiling. Thomas R. Perrotta (born August 13, 1961) is an American novelist and screenwriter best known for his novels Election (1998) and Little Children (2004), both of which were made into critically acclaimed, Academy Award-nominated films. Perrotta co-wrote the screenplay for the 2006 film version of Little Children with Todd Field, for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. He is also known for his novel The Leftovers (2011), which has been adapted into a TV series on HBO. In 1997 he published The Wishbones, his first novel, which Perrotta has said is basically "about my high school years." Everything is going pretty well for Dave Raymond. He's 31, but he still feels young. He's playing guitar with the Wishbones, a New Jersey wedding band, and while it isn't exactly the Big Time, it is music. He has a roof over his head.well, it's his parents' roof, but they don't hassle him much. Life isn't perfect, but it isn't bad. Not bad at all. But then he has to blow it all by proposing to his girlfriend. Derived from a Kirkus review: A funny and charming novel. Perrotta's manic chronicle of prolonged adolescence is set in suburban New Jersey. It covers a chaotic six months (May-September 1994) in the life of Dave Raymond, who's 31 and still lives with his parents, works as a freelance driver for a courier service, plays guitar for a local band and enjoys a more-or-less committed relationship with Julie Muller. When Dave impulsively proposes marriage and Julie eagerly accepts, the looming specters of stability and fidelity severely test Dave's fatigued mettle. The novel is brimming with sharply observed secondary characters. Perrotta offers intriguing set pieces as a wedding at which an elderly band singer dies onstage; a hilariously described poetry reading; and the Wishbones's disastrous gig playing for a group of neo-Nazi survivalist skinheads. It's a wonderfully cacophonous celebration of life during.

The time is the overlooked decade of the seventies. $18.95 price on the jacket with the first state three blurbs on the back. 2) "The Wishbones" (1997) - His first novel, he takes us back to the New Jersey we loved in his first book-only the confused teenagers of the '70s are now the confused adults of the '90s. 3) "Election" (1998) - Part satire, part soap opera, "Election" is an uncommon look at an ordinary American high school, and the extraordinary people who inhabit it. A film adaptation released in April 1999 starring Matthew Broderick and Reese Witherspoon, helped to popularize Perrotta as an author. 4) "Joe College" (2000) - a comic journey into the dark side of higher edication, love, and food service. 5) "Little Children" (2004) - explored the psychological and romantic depths beneath the surface of suburbia. First state with the "goldfish" - unexpectedly suspenseful, but written with the same rich feeling and dark humor of his previous novels, "Little Children" exposes a surprising side of a familiar world. Featured on many "Best Books of 2004" lists including the NYT Book Review. 6) "The Abstinence Teacher" (2007) - It was, according to the author, "all about sex education and the culture wars. It's close in spirit to "'Little Children' I think." A NYT 2007 Notable Book of the Year. 7) "The Leftovers" (2011) - What if?whoosh, right now, with no explanation?a number of us simply vanished? Would some of us collapse? Would others of us go on, one foot in front of the other, as we did before the world turned upside down? With heart, intelligence and a rare ability to illuminate the struggles inherent in ordinary lives, Tom Perrotta has written a startling, thought-provoking novel about love, connection and loss. Turned into a successful HBO TV Series that began running in 2014. 8) "Nine Inches" (2013) - contains an elegant group of short fiction, stories that are as assured in the depictions of characters young and old, established an unsure, as any written today. 9) "Mrs. Fletcher" (2017) - A coming-of-age novel about the sexual awakening of a middle-aged woman. A provocative, witty look at contemporary sexual politics and timeless moral dilemmas-a moving and funny examination odf sexuality, identity, and the big clarifying mistakes people make when they're no longer sure who they are and where they belong.
