Spine with lean; binding sound. Rear hinge with a bit of play, entirely sound. Text block well toned. Interior clean, lightly toned. DJ clipped at bottom corner of front flap (price still visible at top) bottom edge of jacket slightly trimmed at flap folds - not very noticeable. Spine mildly sunned. DJ with solid edges and corners, but for very small chip at lower corner of rear flap and back panel. Despite its faults, a solid copy of a scarce first edition. Photographs available upon request. Ownership signature of Neville Braybrooke (1923-2001) man of letters: poet, novelist and essayist. His copy used by him for a review of The book published in The Spectator October 28th 1966 and tipped in at the rear of te book - 'a magnificent comeback.' THere are 4 other press-cutings pasted inc a review by Brabrooke's friend Kay Dick and one by Colin Macinnes. There are some notes and linings in the text, some in ink (all by Braybrooke) and some notes for his review on the rear blanks Vg in slightly nicked ele vg d/w. Some slight taning to eps, some press-cuttings and notes in text (see description).

The binding is tight but slightly cocked, and hinges intact. The dust jacket is in good condition, still in one piece (and price-clipped) but soiled and worn along edges and folds, with an old damp stain to spine strip. .
