Royal Canadian Edition, limited to 300 copies, of which this is copy number 143. 8vo (23cm by 17cm), xi, 372pp. 75 colour plates by F Whitehead, and a folding sketch map. Original full purple crushed morocco, gilt titling to the front board and the spine, top edge gilt, purple satin endpapers. Sadly, the binding of this copy has not stood the test of time: it is intact, but the spine is heavily rubbed. This is a common problem with this edition, which helps to explain why copies are uncommon today. There is some light foxing of the text pages, but the text block and plates are generally in very good condition. The limitation page states that 1000 sets were printed, but according to Inman (bibliographer of the A&C Black colour books) only 300 sets were actually shipped.
